Danzica: un gioiello del Mar Baltico
Danzica chiamata internazionalmente Gdansk è conosciuta anche come la Perla del Mar Baltico, questa città venne totalmente distrutta durante la seconda guerra mondiale ed oggi nonostante sia stata ricostruita, porta ancora le cicatrici di un triste passato.
Incuriosito dalla sua storia particolare, ho deciso di trascorrere un weekend in questa splendida città a nord della Polonia e sono rimasto suggestionato dalla sua atmosfera a tratti romantica, a tratti malinconica, ma che allo stesso tempo è unica nel suo genere.
Come sapete, non è stata la mia prima volta in Polonia (leggi anche l’articolo su Varsavia) e sono sempre più convinto di consigliarvi di visitare questo stupendo paese.
COSA VISITARE A DANZICA
Quali sono i monumenti da visitare a Danzica?
1) La Fontana di nettuno
Questo monumento, uno dei più antichi custodito e ancora intatto simboleggia il forte legame tra la città di Danzica e il mare. Si trova in pieno centro di fronte la corte di Artù.
2) La corte di Artù
Situata nella piazza più famosa di Danzica, nel cuore della old town, è uno degli edifici più sontuosi della città.
3) Le porte di ingresso alla città vecchia
Ci sono varie porte di accesso alla città vecchia, tutte diverse tra loro per stile e caratteristiche, tra le più importanti ricordiamo La Porta di Santa Maria, la Porta d’oro e la Porta del Pane.
4) Visita a Sopot
Località balneare a soli pochi minuti di treno da Danzica centro. È possibile camminare sul molo più grande del mondo e se scendete in spiaggia una grande quantità di cigni sarà disposta ad intrattenervi.
5) Cattedrale di Santa Maria a Danzica
Stiamo parlando della chiesa di mattoni rossi più grande del mondo. È possibile salire fino alla sommità del campanile per ammirare la città dall’alto, nonostante bisogna percorrere la bellezza di ben 400 gradini, posso assicurarvi che il gioco vale la candela.
6) Mariacka street:
Tipica strada costeggiata da palazzi grigi di pietra e antiche botteghe che vendono vari oggetti costruiti con l’ambra, pietra tipica di queste zone. Ideale per chi è a caccia di souvenir!
Una delle caratteristiche che ho apprezzato di più di Danzica è che sebbene la città non sia molto piccola, è facilmente visitabile a piedi, e non dimenticate di fare un giro sulla ruota panoramica e di visitare i mercatini di NATALE. Nonostante essi siano presenti anche a Varsavia, posso garantirvi che quelli visti a Danzica sono molto più caratteristici e meglio organizzati. Potrete trovare souvenir, ma anche tanto cibo tipico locale. Vedrete che i mercatini hanno un’ala al coperto, ma la parte più popolata è all’aperto ed oltre le innumerevoli bancarelle troverete un’infinità di luci e una giostra per bambini, molto luminosa e di bell’aspetto. Per non parlare della musica di Natale in filodiffusione che sicuramente vi riporterà indietro nel tempo a quando eravate bambini.
DOVE ALOGGIARE A DANZICA:
Se siete attratti da questa famosa meta turistica, ma non sapete dove alloggiare, vi consiglio di provare il Craft Beer Central Hotel, situato a due passi dalla stazione centrale e ben collegato con il centro della città, in questo periodo ha un’ottima posizione anche per visitare i mercatini di Natale, molto famosi e ricchi di bancarelle tipiche che vendono cibi e prodotti tipici della tradizione polacca.
CRAFT BEER CENTRAL HOTEL: LO STILE INDUSTRIALE
Appena entrati in un piccola ma accogliente hall sarete accolti dal personale molto gentile che parla molto bene l’Inglese e vi spiega i servizi e le camere.
Salendo nell’hotel si può notare che la struttura è stata recentemente ristrutturata. Lo stile industriale delle scale in ferro e legno si sposa bene con un effetto caldo e accogliente dei corridoi dallo stile molto studiato. Le camere sono spaziose e arredate finemente come anche il bagno grande all’interno. A colazione si trova un grande buffet internazionale con piatti dolci e salati.

Fiore all’occhiello dell’Hotel Craft Beer Central Hotel a Danzica è sicuramente il pub che si trova al piano terra e seminterrato. Qui è possibile gustare birra artigianale e cibo di qualità all’interno di un’atmosfera calorosa e arredata finemente. Lo stile industriale e i sifoni della birra si sposano molto bene creando un ambiente e un locale di gran tendenza a Danzica. Molte sono le persone che per una cena di lavoro o di famiglia si recano in questo pub soprattutto nei fine settimana.

Gdansk is also known as the Pearl of the Baltic Sea, this city was totally destroyed during the Second World War and today, even if it was rebuild, it still bears the scars of a sad past.
Intrigued by his particular history, I decided to spend a weekend in this beautiful city in the north of Poland and I was impressed by its atmosphere sometimes romantic, sometimes melancholy, but at the same time unique.
As you know, it was not my first time in Poland (read also the article on Warsaw) and I am more and more convinced to advise you to visit this wonderful country.
WHAT TO VISIT IN GDANSK
Which are the best monuments to visit?
The Neptune’S Fountain:
This monument, one of the oldest preserved and still intact, symbolizes the strong link between the city of Gdansk and the sea. It is located in the center opposite the court of Arthur.

Located in the most famous square in Gdańsk, in the heart of the old town, it’s one of the most sumptuous buildings in the city.

There are several gateways to the old city, all different in style and characteristics, the most important are: the Porta di Santa Maria, the Golden Gate and the Porta del Pane.
Sopot
It’s located just a few minutes by train from central Gdansk station. You can walk on the biggest pier in the world and if you go down to the beach a great number of swans will be willing to entertain you.
St. Mary Cathedral in Gdansk
We are talking about the largest red brick church in the world. You can climb up to the top of the bell tower to admire the city from above, although you have to walk the beauty of 400 steps, I can assure you that the game is worth the candle.
Mariacka street:
Typical street flanked by gray stone palaces and ancient shops selling various objects built with amber, a typical stone of these areas. Ideal for those looking for souvenirs! One of the features I liked most in Gdansk is that even if the city is not very small, it’s easy to visit it on foot, and don’t forget to take a ride on the Ferris wheel and visit the Christmas markets. These are also present in Warsaw, but I can assure you that those seen in Gdansk are much more characteristic and better organized. You can find souvenirs, but also a lot of typical local food. You will see that the markets have an indoor wing, but the most populated part is outdoors and beyond the countless stalls you will find lots of lights and a children's carousel, very bright and beautiful. Not to mention the piped Christmas music that will surely take you back in time to when you were a child.
WHERE TO STAY IN GDANSK:
If you are attracted to this famous tourist destination, but do not know where to stay, I recommend you try the Craft Beer Central Hotel, located near the central station and well connected to the city center, in this period also has a great location to visit the Christmas markets, very famous and full of typical stalls selling food and typical products of the Polish tradition.

As soon as you enter, you will be in a small but welcoming hall where you will be welcomed by the very friendly staff who speak English very well and explain their services and rooms.
Going up to the hotel you can see that the structure has been recently renovated. The industrial style of the iron stairs goes well with a warm and welcoming effect of the corridors with a very modern style. The rooms are spacious and finely furnished as well as the large bathroom inside. For breakfast there is a large international buffet with sweet and savory dishes.
